A specialized control valve maintains an air pocket at the top of the tank where contaminated water is oxidized on contact, then filtered through specialized media that captures the precipitated solids. Air Injection Oxidation represents a breakthrough in well water treatment—eliminating the offensive "rotten egg" odor and rust staining caused by iron and sulfur without injecting harsh chemicals into your customers' water supply. This innovative system uses nature's most powerful oxidizer—oxygen from ordinary air—to convert dissolved contaminants into solid particles that can be filtered and removed. The result is clean, odor-free water without chlorine, peroxide, or potassium permanganate.

How Air Injection Oxidation Works

The AIO system's specialized control valve creates and maintains an air pocket at the top of the filter tank. As iron-laden or sulfur-contaminated well water enters the tank, it immediately contacts this oxygen-rich environment. The dissolved iron (ferrous iron) oxidizes instantly into rust particles (ferric iron), while hydrogen sulfide gas oxidizes into elemental sulfur. These oxidized contaminants precipitate as solid particles that are captured by the filtration media below.

An automatic daily backwash cycle removes the accumulated solids, refreshes the media bed, and regenerates a fresh air pocket—ensuring consistent performance day after day without any operator intervention. The system essentially mimics the natural oxidation process that would occur if contaminated water sat exposed to air for hours, but accomplishes it in seconds as water flows through the tank.

APPLICATION NOTES: AIO units should be installed after sediment or neutralizing filters, chlorination and de-chlorination and before a water softener and any other downstream treatment equipment. Do not use AIO units for treatment of water that contains bacteria or for water of unknown quality.
